According to police sources, one Martin Kamara, son of a strong opposition member, Martin Kamara, is wanted in connection with a protest at the Headquarters of the main opposition party APC, where one young man was shot dead.
According to party sources, Martin Kamara senior was targeted by the government for simply being a member of their party and that all allegations against him were politically motivated. They disclosed that prior to the elections of June 2023, the ruling party was apprehensive of the popularity of the main opposition party, and had formulated all kinds of plot to arrest their members. They disclosed that several party members were arrested and detained over false allegations of targeting the Vice President, who was in the opposition stronghold on the day the opposition party was to hold its campaign.
As tension grew, the security forces, with directive from the government, arrested Martin Kamara non allegations of planning a protest that will disrupt the peace of the country. He was taken to the main prison, where he spent 3 months without charges, and when released, he was physically incapacitated.
According to family source, their house was Raided and all male inmates beaten and taken into custody. Martin Kamara junior is said to have escaped arrest and ran into a nearby densely populated slum, where he made good his escape. They furthered that since then, the police have been looking for him on allegation that he was the youth leader of the proposed protest, a reminisce of the August 10 violent protest that resulted in the deaths of some 25 civilians and six security officers.
Area youths spoken to say that the police had raided the house of Martin Kamara family on several occasions looking for the young man, and when they could not find him, they took his father, only to return him in 3 months’ time in a challenging health condition. They disclosed that Martin Kamara senior is now paralyzed, while his son is at large, being sought after by the police.
As we go to press, the whereabouts of Martin Kamara junior are yet unknown.
