STATS SL Updates Port Loko District Residents

Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL), through its Deputy Statistician-General, Lansana Kpewolo Kanneh, has in the second edition of the Civic Day Series organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE), successfully updated and enlightened residents of Port Loko District about detailed plans and progress made so far on the upcoming 2026 Decennial Population and Housing Census.

The occasion was witnessed by key government dignitaries, local and traditional authorities, Mayor of the Port Loko City Council, Alieu Badara Tarawally, Chairman of the Port Loko District Council, Sheku Tejan Saccoh,  representatives from the security sector, youth groups, market women, bike riders, Motor Drivers Unions, university students, and school going pupils.

The Deputy Statistician-General, Lansana Kpewolo Kanneh, explained the various strides taken on the 2026 Decennial Population and Housing Census (PHC), including but not limited to the establishment of the census secretariat, constitution of working committees, hiring of the Chief Technical Adviser and the Catographic Consultant by UNFPA,  and opening of recruitment portal.

Mr. Kanneh also emphasized the impact of the people owning and fully participating in every stage of the census process, noting that their cooperation will be critical for informing national development, planning and policy formulation, equitable distribution of resources, and critical decision-making processes .

He concluded by registering Stats SL total commitment to making the 2026 census as inclusive and people-centered as possible. 

Attendees were given the platform to ask questions and comment on the census process, making the event an interactive and educative one.
