The practice of secret society is still prevalent in the Northern part of Sierra Leone. One of them, the Bondo secret society is believed to be one of the most dangerous secret societies in the country. And has been in existence for hundreds of years.
According to report reaching this medium, on Sunday 2nd April, 2023, that Kaday Laura Mansaray, who is from a chieftaincy family has openly refused to be initiated into the Bondo secret society in Magburaka Town, in the Northern part of Sierra Leone.
Kaday Laura Mansaray, who is believed to be the first child to her parents has lost her siblings and other family members to the Bondo secret society.
Her mother is the former chief in Magburaka town and her mother was one of the senior members in the Bondo secret society.
Kaday Laura Mansaray, got married to Abdul Sesay both of them stayed in Makeni town. She attended the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology. After the death of her late mother, she and her brother decided to go and perform some funeral rites of their late mother in the village.
She further stated that after the ceremony of their beloved late mother, some senior secret society members told her that, she was the one to succeed her mother as the new chief. She initially agreed to take the mantle, because she thought that it was just an ordinary thing. Later she was told that, she has to join the Bondo secret society before she can become the chief. she added that she told them that if that was the only way to become chief, she is no longer interested.
Kaday Laura Mansaray maintained that the senior members of the Bondo secret society told her that they would initiate her forcefully into the Bondo society. She added that by then her cousin, who was carrying her daughter was not around and she decided to return to Makeni.
They took her daughter, Fanny Sesay into the Bondo secret society bush, and her mother Kaday Laura Mansaray rushed into the Bondo secret society bush. She furthermore narrated that the head of the Bondo secret society who was in the Bondo bush told her that they would forcefully initiate her and her daughter because they wanted her to be the chief. Kaday Laura Mansaray’s husband, Abdul Sesay and his brother, Amadu Mansaray with his friends who attended the funeral ceremony of Kaday Mansaray’s late mother in the village, got information that Kaday Laura Mansaray and her daughter Fanny Sesay have been captured and taken to the Bondo bush to initiate them forcefully.
Her husband and his brother with their friends then rushed in to the secret society bush to rescue them. After they have been rescued from the secret society bush, they had to return to Makeni town, and the Bondo secret society reported her husband and her brother to the Poro secret society. Magburaku is one of the headquarters for the Poro secret society. They have declared Kaday Laura Mansaray, Abdul Sesay, Amadu Mansaray wanted by the Poro secret society.
According to reliable report, the victims have to relocate from Makeni to Kambia, because they feared for their lives and they don’t want to be part of secret society institution.
