INTRODUCTION: This has to do with a case of Misprision of Treason and attempted failed Coup to overthrovvm the Democratically Elected Government of Sierra Leone conduct likely to cause the breach of the peace which is under investigation by the Sierra Leone Police against some unknown youths believed to be ex-Military and police officers who had attempted to stage a Coup to topple the democratically elected government of President Julius Maada Bio in the capital city of Freetown. This case was incidental for investigation.
BRIEF FACTS: Recorded down on the 26th November, 2023, commenced at 13:25pm at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Pademba Road Freetown. Sources from the Sierra Leone police (SLP) have disclosed that Major Musa Fofanah who was residing at No. 5 Cemetery Road Ogoo Farm, Freetown has been found wanting for his involvement in the attempted failed Coup plot to topple the Democratically Elected Government of President Julius Maada Bio on the 26th November 2023.
The Sierra Leone Police has learnt that some of these ring leaders in the attempted failed Coup on 26th November 2023 were body guards to former President Koroma including Major Musa Fofanah who is the Uncle of Afsatu Fofanah and also an active Military Navy Officer in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).
The Sierra Leone Police also learnt that Afsatu Fofanah was a relative to Major Musa Fofanah whom they stay together with other family members at the same house, when she was adopted by her uncle when she was 12 years old and there was evidence that Major Musa Fofanah was involved in the attempted failed Coup on 26th November 2023.
According to investigations, Major Musa Fofanah left home and went for his normal night duty on the 25 th November, 2023 and the following day the 26th November, 2023, at around 8:00 AM, a group of Military personnel dressed in full Military Uniforms entered the house of Major Fofanah in search for him but he was nowhere to be found. Afsatu Fofanah was asked for the whereabouts of her uncle Major Musa Fofanah. Afsatu Fofanah told them that Major Musa Fofanah went for his normal night duty at his Navy office. All those met in the house including Afsatu Fofanah were arrested, and taken to the Main Correctional Center “Pademba road prison” for three days. They were placed in different cells because of age difference. Other arrests have been made whilst a good number of other suspects are on the run, for which the Police is calling on members of the public to provide information leading to the arrest of all those involved in the said act.
Later Afsatu Fofanah alone was released from prison. When she returned home, she was asked about the way about of her family, and she replied them that she didn’t see anyone of them at home and she don’t know their way about. Some thugs believed to be members of the ruling party SLPP attacked her whilst she was alone at home and she was severely beaten and physically tortured. After some days the SLP got tips that Afsatu Fofanah had escaped to whereabouts, they raided her residence and none of her relatives were seen in their house and their whereabouts is unknown. So she had no choice but to flee away for her safety. As the investigations continue, the Sierra Leone Police, is looking for both Afsatu Fofanah and her family members for their arrest for them to face justice.

l. Officers revisited the scene of the incident to assess the house and gather evidence.
2. Statements were collected from other witnesses present at the time of the incident.
Investigation:
Intelligence gathered that the incident may have been politically motivated,
Witnesses identified several ex-Military and police officers who were involved in the attack, although their names and identities remain unverified at this time. The Matter has been escalated to senior police officials for further investigation. Efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
Conclusion:
The Sierra Leone Police is treating this incident as a serious case of politically motivated. We will continue to investigate and bring those responsible to justice and security measures have been recommended.
