The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recovered more than Le 75 billion (old Leones), marking a significant achievement in Sierra Leone’s fight against corruption and the safeguarding of public funds.

The Commissioner of the ACC, Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., disclosed the recovery during an interview on AYV Television’s ‘Wake Up Sierra Leone’. He confirmed that all recovered monies were paid directly into the Consolidated Fund, in full compliance with the country’s financial and legal frameworks.

Commissioner Ben Kaifala stressed that the ACC’s mandate goes beyond recovering stolen or misappropriated funds. He noted that ensuring strong accountability mechanisms remains central to the Commission’s work.

He explained that the Auditor-General’s Office plays a key oversight role by auditing expenditures from the Consolidated Fund. Any concerns or irregularities identified during such audits, he said, are formally referred to the ACC for investigation and appropriate action.

The ACC Commissioner also expressed confidence that the recovered funds have been used for productive and lawful purposes, contributing to national development and the delivery of essential public services. This confidence, he noted, is based on sustained collaboration between the ACC and other accountability institutions.

The recovery of over Le 75 billion, according to the Commissioner, reflects the Commission’s strengthened enforcement strategies, proactive investigations, and uncompromising stance against corruption under his leadership.

The achievement reinforces public confidence in the Anti-Corruption Commission and underscores the importance of institutional cooperation in promoting transparency, fiscal discipline, and good governance. As Sierra Leone continues its development journey, the ACC, Commissioner Ben Kaifala reaffirmed, remains committed to protecting public resources and ensuring accountability in public financial management.
