AG Abdul Aziz Appointed API Board Member

Mr. Abdul Aziz, the Auditor General of the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Sierra Leone has been recently appointed member of the African Professionalization Initiative (API) Governing Council.

Mr. Aziz was nominated by the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) as the official designate representative of the AFROSAI-E to the API Governing Council.

The African Professionalization Initiative is an independent non-profit organization whose primary objective is to strengthen the capacity and knowledge base of accounting and auditing professionals in the African Public Sector to enhance accounting and auditing service delivery to the citizens of Africa.

The API is a partnership between the accountancy profession and supreme audit institutions represented by the English and French Speaking African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI).

Expressing a congratulatory note in a letter dated 27th January 2026, Evans Mulera Chief Executive Officer of API noted that the nomination of the Sierra Leone Auditor General by AFROSAI-E represents a significant step forward in strengthening continental collaboration in advancing public sector professionalization for better capacity.

He noted that the nomination of Mr. Aziz is based on the proven expertise, network, distinguished leadership, and deep understanding of public financial management.

Many staff within the Audit Service Sierra Leone believe that AFROSAI-E nominated Mr. Aziz based on his meaningful contributions in advancing public financial management both at home and abroad.     

This appointment further strengthens Sierra Leone’s public financial management policies and practice, which helps to ensure accountability and transparency for good governance. The appointment is a testament of the country’s effort in promoting external auditing service delivery.
