SALWACO Records Major Gains in January 2025

Freetown, September 20, 2025 – The Director Finance of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), Frank Lahai Kamara, has highlighted significant progress made in the water supply sector during his presentation at the 2026/2028,  Budget discussions held at the Ministry of Finance conference room.

Presenting the institution’s Key Achievements from January 2025 to Date, Kamara disclosed that six major water supply stations are currently being implemented across the country. These include projects in Kambia, Kailahun, Moyamba, Kabala, Pujehun, and Magburaka.

He reported that revenue collection has improved remarkably, increasing by 61 percent—from NLe 5,099,985.00 in FY2023 to NLe 8,200,653.00 in FY2024.

According to him, there has also been a 41 percent rise in the volume of water supplied, from 1,075,422 cubic meters to 1,511,641 cubic meters, while customer connections expanded by 21 percent, growing from 8,713 to 10,580 households.

Kamara further informed stakeholders that SALWACO has completed the design for the Four Towns Water Supply Project, targeting Njala, Mattru, Daru, and Mongor.

The initiative is being supported through funding from the Indian Exim Bank and a Saudi-financed component.

“These gains are part of our strategic commitment to ensure that more Sierra Leoneans, especially in provincial towns, have reliable access to safe and sustainable water supply,” Ing. Vandi emphasized.

The Director of Finance assured that the company will continue to build on these

achievements as government prepares the 2026 fiscal year budget.

According to the management, several stakeholders’ engagements have been conducted to discuss the company’s operations and projects, ensuring inclusive participation and feedback from partners and beneficiaries.

In addition, SALWACO has completed its organizational structure and finalized the preparation of job descriptions for staff, a move aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability, and service delivery across the institution.

These achievements form part of SALWACO’s broader commitment to improving water service provision and institutional governance nationwide.
