As He Faces Pressure to Step Down…

Will Samura Kamara Break Away from the APC?

Reports circulating on social media claim that Dr. Samura Kamara, a prominent figure in Sierra Leone’s political landscape, is on the verge of breaking away from the All People’s Congress (APC) to form his own political party. Though the reports are unconfirmed, it has sparked widespread discussion and speculation in many quarters.
If true, Dr. Kamara would be following a path once taken by Alhaji Samuel Sam-Sumana, who left the APC to establish his own political party before ultimately returning to the stone he had rejected. Sam-Sumana’s decision has often been cited as a cautionary tale; his departure and return were viewed by many as detrimental to his political influence and reputation. Critics argue that leaving the APC cost Sam Sumana substantial support and momentum, weakening
his political career.
Dr. Kamara has had the honor of representing the
APC as a flagbearer in two Presidential elections, though both attempts fell short of securing the Presidency. His critics suggest that Kamara should accept that perhaps he was not destined for the nation’s highest office. From their perspective, this move would only split the opposition, undermining the cohesion needed to challenge the ruling party effectively. They believe that forming a new party may not only strain Kamara’s political influence but also risk fragmenting the APC’s voter base, ultimately strengthening their rivals.
For many within the APC, the advice is clear; remain united and focused. Kamara’s followers, supporters, and advisors will need to consider the historical implications and the potential consequences of such a decision.
