NaTCA Director General Clears the Air

The Director General of the National Telecommunication Authority(NaTCA), Mr Amara Brewah at the usual press conference organize by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education held at the ministry’s mini Conference room, has on Tuesday 21st January, 2025, informed journalists that his institution slammed a US$1 Million fine on Orange Sierra Leone due to their failure to meet the deadline both institutions agreed on for Orange(SL) to improve on their service delivery.

He said though Orange(SL) is replacing their equipment it should not be at the detriment of their customers by not providing quality network service.

Mr Brewah disclosed that currently Mobile Telecommunication Networks have been granted license to put on trial 5G. He maintained that NaTCA is working assiduously to ensure that telecommunication quality is improved across the country.

In her statement Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation, Madam Salima Bah said the government of President Bio has expanded mobile and internet service across the country. She noted that her ministry has implemented a national digital strategy.

She disclosed that Cybersecurity in Sierra Leone has attained grade 3, adding that the government is encouraging competition in the telecommunication industry.

On the state of Sierratel, Minister Bah said government has agreed to privatize it. She pointed out that the company which won the bid had a problem with the government.

The climax of the press conference was a question and answer session from both the media and government officials who briefed the press.
