SLPP Celebrates Corruption
During a recent press briefing in the Conference Room of Parliament, Majority Leader of the SLPP, Mathew Nyuma, and Information and Civic Education Minister, Chernor Bah, discussed the ongoing debate over the return of suspended Clerk Paran Tarawally to Parliament.
Hon. Nyuma explained that Tarawally’s suspension followed serious allegations and a thorough investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which led to administrative actions against him.
He pointed out that Paran’s suspension, without salary, reflects the severity of the situation, adding that his wife faces a five-year ban while the embezzled funds were fully recovered by the state.
Minister Bah addressed concerns about whether additional punitive measures were needed beyond the suspension and financial penalties already imposed.
He boastfully defended the government’s stance, arguing that the current actions were fair and proportional to the offenses, and questioned the public retribution for more stiffer punishment.
It could be recalled that Paran Tarawally was investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for slotting in his wife without going through the due processes of employment as a staff of Parliament. To add salt to injury, Paran’s wife was not reporting for duty but was collecting her monthly salary.
