EDSA Undermines President Bio
As frequent blackouts darken homes across Sierra Leone during the holy month of Ramadan, citizens are growing increasingly frustrated with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA). The erratic power supply has made life difficult, especially for Muslims who rely on electricity throughout the night for prayers, meals, and other religious observances.
Despite President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to improving the country’s energy sector, EDSA’s inconsistent power distribution tells a different story—one that suggests a lack of understanding or disregard for the needs of the people. The ongoing power crisis has left many questioning whether the government’s promises of progress are being actively undermined by poor management and inefficiency.
Beyond the inconvenience, these blackouts pose serious dangers. Electrical faults caused by unstable power supply have led to devastating house fires, destroying lives and property. A recent example is the tragic incident involving the home of Hon. Abdul Kargbo, the APC Minority Leader in Parliament, which was reduced to ashes. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for accountability and reform within EDSA.
Sierra Leoneans deserve reliable electricity—not just for convenience, but for safety, economic growth, and a better quality of life. As the nation endures yet another Ramadan marred by power outages, the cries for a sustainable solution grow louder. The question remains: Will the government take decisive action to fix the energy crisis, or will citizens continue to suffer under EDSA’s failures?
