Panic Grips Citizens
The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) announced the retirement of 70 military officers on Friday, November 29, 2024. The Defence Council approved the decision on November 18, 2024.
Among the retirees are two high-ranking officers: Major General CF Marah, former Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Defence, and Commodore PJ Juana, former Naval Chief of Staff.
According to a statement by RSLAF Media Operations Office, a total of 70 officers were retired, ranging in rank from General to Lieutenant. 53 officers were placed on the reserve list and will be eligible to serve during emergencies. These officers will receive a lump sum payment equivalent to one year’s salary.
The RSLAF said its decision to retire a significant number of officers is part of a broader effort to modernize the armed forces and address performance issues.
