Bye Bye to Politics
After many bashings and criticizing against Dr Samura Kamara from some factions of the All-People’s Congress (APC) party, Dr. Samura Kamara, the former Presidential flag bearer for Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), has officially announced his departure from politics.
Some political analysts say It may be time for him to rest and die in peace. A school of thought opined that Dr. Samura Kamara could be compared to the late Dr. Karefa-Smart, who bided for the Presidency several times, but could not clinch it till his demise in the United States of America.
Having contested twice for the Presidency under the APC ticket, Kamara faced significant challenges in the 2018 and 2023 elections respectively. Though allegations are rife that he was nakedly robbed by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).It is yet to be proven by a competent court in Sierra Leone, despite repeated calls from the APC for a re-run of the 2023 Presidential election.
Members and supporters of the APC have expressed disappointment and frustration with his repeated losses, with some advising him to take a back stage in the political landscape. They argue that while Kamara is a respected technocrat with vast experience in public administration and international relations, he may not be destined to become President. Critics within the party believe that his leadership style did not resonate enough with the electorate to secure victory and that it may be time for new leadership to emerge within the APC.
Despite his extensive career in government and international institutions, including his tenure as Minister of Finance and Foreign Affairs, Kamara’s journey towards the Presidency has been marked by setbacks. Now, as he steps back from politics, many are left to reflect on his contributions to the country’s development while contemplating the future direction of the APC.
This move has sparked debates within the political landscape, with some lauding Kamara’s decision as an honorable retreat, while others view it as the end of an era in APC leadership.
As this medium gathered, many in the likes of Dr Richard Conteh, JFK, Minkailu Mansaray, and the likes are vying for the Presidential flagbearer. It’s a wait and see what will unfold in the APC party.
