At MTA Annual Sector Retreat…

SLNSA Hailed

The Sierra Leone National Shipping Agency SLNSA has received strong commendations after being ranked among the best presenters at the ongoing Annual Sector Retreat currently taking place at the Njala Venue in Bo city, Southern Province.

Their presentation was commended and climaxed with complimentary comments from the audience and described the presenter, Mr. Sahr K.F Davowah Esq, Corporate and Legal Affairs Director as the best presenter.

In his presentation, Mr. Sahr KF Davowah Esq. started by presenting the agency’s establishment and its mandate including success stories, challenges, opportunities, as well as the way forward. He emphasized the importance of the SLNSA Act of 2025 which is the successor to the Sierra Leone National Shipping Company SLNSC to the Sierra Leone National Carrier.

He further informed members of agencies and ministries about the agency’s strategic role in the maritime and logistics sector. Lawyer Davowah also shares the agency’s success stories which included the smooth transition from SLNSC to SLNSA, strengthen management and leadership structure, improved staff working conditions and welfare, timely payment of salaries, the procurement of a 100- KVA Perkins generator, staff capacity- building initiatives among many others.

However, Director Davowah also presented key challenges faced by the agency which includes, low compliance by Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs) with the SLNSA Act of 2025, regulatory gaps within the maritime and logistics sector ( brief-case clearing and forwarding agents), delay of payments by MDA’s, staffing issues, lack of vehicles for management and operational activities, he emphasized.

He concluded by saying that the SLNSA has shown strong progress in policy reforms, service delivery, financial stewardship and accountability as well as remained committed to building a modern, efficient, and transparent shipping agency that serves government and its people.
