The Sierra Leone Police has mounted an intensive investigation regarding the August 8, 9 and 10, 2022 protests on the streets of Freetown and some parts of Sierra Leone.
A Journalist named Alie Kargbo, also a youth activist, of 26 Gooding drive Regent Road Lumley, west-end of Freetown
has been declared wanted by the Sierra Leone Police as one of the active participants on the August 8, 9 and 10 2022 protests in Freetown
Kargbo was like his accomplices in other parts of the country allegedly mobilized youth to pertake on the nationwide protest that led to the death of over 20 civilians and six police officers in Freetown among other parts of the country.
Alie Kargbo,a journalist working for the Daybreak newspaper stand accused of being one of the team leaders that organized the August 8’9& 10 protest.
It could be recalled that on 10th August, 2022 some citizens stormed the streets of Sierra Leone to demonstrate against the government for hardship, high cost of living and rapid inflation in the country and prior to the demonstration there were audio messages on social media calling on Sierra Leoneans to sit at home on 8 and 9 August, 2022 and 10th August 2022 to come out and protest against the government and informed the international community that they were tired of the happenings and hard times they are going through in the country.
One of the protesters, Ibrahim Momoh disclosed to this medium that the demonstration on 10th August, 2022 started peacefully holding placards and singing songs calling on the government to stepdown as they are tired and the demonstration continued for about four hours before the Sierra Leone Police interrupted the procession by using live bullets and firing of teargas canisters on the peaceful protesters and the situation got out of hands when they saw the police killing three protesters in cold blood and that aggravated the situation leading to the protesters setting pilice stations ablaze burning , vehicles tires on the roads and mounting road blocks.
According to a relative of Alie Kargbo, he was allegedly leading a group of youths carrying corpses to the mortuary when they were attacked by members of armed officers who opened live firing on them and on the process killed some protesters and others arrested.
This medium gathered that some of the youths that the Cousin of Alie Kargbo, Ibrahim Momoh was arrested and detained at the Calaba Town Police station but the irate youth went there and attacked the police station forcefully releasing Ibrahim Momoh and others.
This medium further gathered that during the chaos Alie Kargbo and others had to escaped and run for their lives and upto press time his whereabouts of Alie Kargbo is yet unknown as the police continued to hunt for him.
The Sierra Leone Police on their public notice called on citizens to report and give information on the whereabouts of Alie Kargbo among others that participated in 10th August 2022 protest that led to the death of six police officers and over 20 civilians as Le 5, 000,000 reward will be given to any individual that gives information that will lead to the arrest of any of them.
