Police Declares Salia Jalloh Wanted
According to police sources, one Salia Jalloh, living at 29 Ascension Town Road, Freetown, has been declared wanted by the Sierra Leone Police after he was reported to have been caught red-handed having sex with another male, Kabba Barrie, at the same residence.
According to our source, Salia was living with his friend, Kabba Barrie, at Barrie’s home on the behest of Amadu Barrie, a devout Muslim and father of Kabba Barrie. It is said that Salia Jalloh hails from Sambaya Bendugu, Northern Sierra Leone, and came to stay with Kabba Barrie’s family upon appeal of Kabba to his father. He was caught in sexual act with Kabba Barrie at the said residence on 8th April 2022 by Amadu Barrie, father of Kabba Barrie, but managed to escape. A report was made at the Adelaide Street police station by Amadu Barrie and a search party was dispatched to look for him. As their efforts proved futile, the police have issued a warrant of arrest for him and declared him wanted.
Visiting the residence of Amadu Barrie, this medium engaged him on the matter. A visibly angry Pa Barrie explained that as a devout Muslim he goes frequently to the Mosque to attend prayers, often conducting teachings of the Quran etc at the Masjid. He stressed that he is a respected figure in the community and had lived there for decades. He maintained that on one fateful day (8th April 2022) he returned early to collect some items to take to the Mosque, and on entering his house, he heard strange sound coming from the room of his son, and upon entering the unlocked door, he discovered both his son and Salia naked, having sex. With a shock, he then raised an alarm. He furthered that he wanted to take him to the police station, but whilst alarming the youths in the area to beat him, Salia was able to escape, and dashed into a nearby cemetery, where he made good his escape. Amadu Barrie then told this medium that he then made the report at the police station and came with a team of officers, who went in search on him in the slum area, but their efforts were in vain. He vowed to ensure that Salia is kept behind bars for life for defiling his son and tarnishing his family name and his respect in the community.
Same sex is illegal and a taboo in Sierra Leone, and anyone caught and brought to the police will be charged to Court and after conviction, will spend the rest of his life in prison. This situation is rather lenient than when left to the community to deal with, as the result is often death in the hands of an angry mob. In such cases, the police turn a blind eye.
This medium engaged residents in the area on the matter, and according to them, both Salia and Kabba Barrie were seen around all of the time, but they had no idea that this had been going on between them. They all expressed shock over the incident. They also confirmed that since the day of the incident, when Salia escaped from the mob, he has not been seen around, and no one knows his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, the police say that they have put a bounty on his head for any information that will lead to his arrest. Homosexuality is illegal in Sierra Leone and anybody caught in the act will get life imprisonment if brought to the police, but if dealt with by the community, as in rural settings, the result is instant death. Both religious faiths in the country are opposed to same sex, describing it as satanic and demonic, and should not be allowed. Even people advocating for legalizing of same sex are often targeted by community people, and their safety is always at stake.
As we go to press, the whereabouts of Salia Jalloh are still unknown, and the search is still on by both the police and community people.
