East End Lions Crowned Champions

The Sierra Leone football club in the United States, Pennsylvania East End Lions emerged again winner, 2025 Father’s Day tournament.

The Sierra Leonean community in the United States marked this year’s International Father’s Day with an exciting and memorable football gala that brought together families, friends, and football enthusiasts from across the U.S. The inter-club football competition, held in celebration of fatherhood and unity, ended with East End Lions Football Club emerging as the undisputed champions of the day.

The festive tournament was not only a sporting event but a cultural celebration of Sierra Leonean heritage, values, and the role of fathers in building stronger families and communities. Teams representing various regions and community groups competed fiercely in a day-long event filled with laughter, cheer, and a strong sense of togetherness.

After a series of thrilling matches and high-spirited performances, East End Lions came out on top, lifting the trophy in front of a jubilant crowd. Their victory was sealed in a dramatic final match, where teamwork, discipline, and determination were on full display.

Speaking to Daybreak Newspaper after the final whistle, Mike Scott expressed immense pride in his team’s achievement. “I’m very proud,” he said. “When you are in a competition, you always want to win — and today we did just that. It wasn’t easy, but we believed in ourselves, and we delivered.”

Scott also praised the organizers and the broader Sierra Leonean community in the U.S. for putting together such a meaningful and well-organized event. “This is more than just football,” he continued. “It’s about celebrating our culture, honoring our fathers, and bringing our people together. I’m grateful to be part of this experience.”

The event was punctuated by speeches, musical performances, and tributes to fathers both in the diaspora and back home in Sierra Leone. Organizers described the day as a “celebration of legacy, love, and leadership,” emphasizing that fathers play a crucial role in shaping the future generation.

The success of the gala has inspired calls for the tournament to become an annual event, promoting not just sports, but also community cohesion and cultural pride among Sierra Leoneans living abroad.

As the sun set and the champions hoisted their trophy to loud applause, it was clear that the event had achieved far more than a football victory — it had united a community and honored the timeless role of fatherhood in a powerful and joyful way.
