Speaking in respect of his sacking from the position of Attorney General and Minister of Justice, a position that he was appointed to hold by President Bio, Charles Francis Margai told the nation on the God Morning Salone program aired on 2nd June 2023 that his sacking was as a result of a coup orchestrated against him by some big wigs in the Paopa government.
According to Margai, a meeting was held at Kona Lodge on Signal Hill by a Paopa cabal, where they arrived at the conclusion that he was not a team player, and relayed same to His Excellency. He furthered that up to date, no one knows why President Bio sacked him, but stressed that it is the prerogative of the President, by the Constitution, to hire and fire, and that he alone can tell the people of Sierra Leone the reason for his sacking. He, however, noted that during the appointment of officials to head various MDAs, he objected to nine people, who, in his opinion, were not qualified to be appointed, as they were receiving salaries from the Consolidated Fund, a clear violation of the Constitution, and as the Legal Adviser to the President, it is his duty to bring that to his notice, adding that this could be the reason why the coup was orchestrated against him, he said.
He also noted that the Constitution made no provision for Chief Minister, except that of the President and Vice President. Thus, the appointment of Chief Minister was another violation of the country’s constitution. He furthered that both the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Minister were part of the conspirators to get him removed.
