14th, September 2025, Gondama Town, Moyamba District – Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, was on a working visit to Gondama Town, Kamajei Chiefdom, Moyamba District, to reaffirm the government’s commitment to inclusive development and strong ties between local leadership and central governance.

The visit was inspired by the gratitude and initiative of Paramount Chief Brima Sundufu Sovula IV, who recently returned from a medical trip facilitated by the Government of Sierra Leone. Upon his return, the Paramount Chief expressed a desire to lead a delegation of Section Chiefs to Freetown to thank the Chief Minister. In a symbolic gesture of humility and accessibility, Dr. Sengeh declined the visit to Freetown and instead chose to travel to Kamajei Chiefdom, stating:
“We are here today because of development. We are here today because of Paramount Chief Brima Sundufu Sovula, who came to see me after returning from his medical trip. He wanted his Section Chiefs to come and thank me, but I told him, ‘No need — I will come to Kamajei Chiefdom myself.’ That is why I am here.”

During the community engagement, Dr. Sengeh emphasized the leadership and developmental vision of President Julius Maada Bio, crediting him as the first Head of State to bring meaningful and sustained development to Kamajei Chiefdom.
“President Bio and the SLPP are the driving force behind the progress we’re seeing in Kamajei. Whether it’s infrastructure, agriculture, or governance, His Excellency has delivered where others have not. We saw over six newly constructed culverts on our way here, and we’ve been told 16 have been completed in total in the chiefdom. That is tangible development.”
The Chief Minister also highlighted the Feed Salone initiative as a game-changing policy that is linking government programs directly to communities, mentioning that the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) have established a farm in the chiefdom — creating employment and promoting food self-sufficiency.
Commending Paramount Chief Sovula’s decision to appoint a woman into his administration, Dr. Sengeh noted:
“Choosing a woman to serve in your local leadership is commendable. It aligns with our commitment to gender inclusion and women’s empowerment, which is central to our national development strategy.”
During the meeting, discussions centered on urgent local development priorities. Hon. Sylvester Boima, MP for Moyamba District, pledged to renovate the historic community center (Barry) built in 1920 by the Paramount Chief’s grandfather. In response, the Chief Minister made a personal commitment:
“With your permission, Hon. Boima, I would like to take responsibility for the renovation of the community center. It would be my honor to restore this historic space for the people of Kamajei.”
Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay, MP for Kagboroh Chiefdom, invited the Chief Minister to visit her constituency — a request which Dr. Sengeh warmly accepted, affirming his ongoing commitment to development across the Moyamba District.
In his remarks, Paramount Chief Brima Sundufu Sovula presented a detailed overview of the needs and development priorities of Kamajei Chiefdom.

“Chief Minister, the people of Kamajei are ready to be part of national development. We will even pay tax tickets to contribute to our progress,” he added.
Also in attendance were Members of Parliament, District Council Chairpersons, Councillors, Youth Leaders, Traditional Authorities, and other key stakeholders — all reaffirming their support for the Bio-led government and its development vision.
Hon. Sylvester Boima, in his closing remarks, thanked the Chief Minister for his timely intervention during the Paramount Chief’s illness and praised the government’s people-centered approach.
