Chinese CEO in Court for Alleged Assault and Wounding

A 39-year-old Chinese national, Zhou Wenjie, who also serves as Chief Executive Officer and shareholder of an unnamed company, has been dragged before Magistrate Sao Mamakoh Kallon of the Pademba Road Court No. 3 in Freetown.

He faces two criminal charges for allegedly assaulting and wounding a Sierra Leonean man.

Zhou Wenjie was arrested in connection with an incident that occurred on Sunday, 4th May 2025, at Sux Mile, Newton, Waterloo, in the Western Rural District.

According to the charge sheet, count one accuses Zhou of wounding Musa Baba Conteh, contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861. Count two alleges that Zhou also assaulted the victim, causing actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the same Act.

State Counsel Conteh informed the court that the complainant was absent due to illness and appealed for a short adjournment. He emphasized the need for cooperation from both the prosecution and defense to ensure smooth proceedings, noting that delays from the defense side may lead to the trial proceeding in their absence on the next adjourned date.

Magistrate Mamakoh Sao Kallon, after listening to the submissions adjourned the matter to 12th August 2025 for further proceedings.
