Energy Minister,Israeli Ambassador Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Ties,Seek Mutually Beneficial Partnership and Investments in the Energy Sector
Ministry of Energy,Freetown,Friday August 25, 2023………* The Isreali Ambassador to Ghana,Sierra Leone and Liberia,Ambassador Gloria Amoo,has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, during which time the two personalities explored ways of enabling mutually beneficial investments in Sierra Leone’s energy sector and reiterated their genuine commitment to strengthening the sisterly ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Gloria Amoo, who is resident in Ghana,said she had visited the Minister because she wanted to learn more about the country’s energy mix,government’s overall policy objective in the sector,opportunities for public-private partnerships and investments,and the challenges that beset the sector.
She said a reputable Isreali company was finalizing plans to invest in the area of energy in Sierra Leone, adding that she would do everything humanly and administratively possible to not only support such a step but to further encourage other Isreali companies to tap into the country’s growing investment potentials in the energy and other sectors.
Minister of Energy,Alhaji Kanja Sesay,thanked Ambassador Amoo for the visit,noting that Sierra Leone and Isreal would always continue to enjoy very strong bilateral ties.
He said that Isreal had always been on hand whenever Sierra Leone was in need and expressed his desire to work with companies from Isreal with a view to positively transforming the country’s energy landscape.
Mr. Sesay spoke about the progress the Government of President Julius Maada Bio had made in the sector,citing the increase in access rate from a dismal 16% in 2018 to a stunning 35% in 2023 and the impressive rural energy drive as shining examples of those genuine strides.
The Minister of Energy concluded by stating that the energy sector was a sector in a hurry,and necessarily so. He implored the Ambassador to encourage companies from her country to invest in Sierra Leone.
