DISMISSAL AND POLITICAL INTIMIDATION OF ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE(ASP) ABDULAI MOMOH KAMARA

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdulai Momoh Kamara was a serving member of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) since 23rd October 2005. He was a dedicated, hardworking and God-fearing officer. He has worked in various capacities in the SLP starting as a general duty officer in Moyamba and later as an Operations Support Division (OSD) officer in Freetown. He has worked with successive governments since 2005 when he was recruited into the SLP. ASP Kamara always ensures he work in accordance with the Constitution of Sierra Leone thereby observing human rights.
Despite the professionalism displayed by this officer while executing his lawful duties, he has been subjected to several political intimidation, inhumane and degrading treatment since the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) took over governance.
ASP Kamara was the admin officer for the Sierra Leone Formed Police Unit (SLFPU-4) whilst on Peacekeeping mission in Somalia under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) 2022. The politicization of the SLP led to rampant dismissal and intimidation of officers who are seen as traitors from the north by senior officers who are one way or the other connected to the present government and that is what affected officer Kamara.

Though Officer Kamara played a neutral role while performing his lawful duties, yet he has been seen as a Temne and a Northerner who will be linked to any form of issue that is against the government and wanted to get rid of him. Knowing clearly that ASP Kamara was serving as a security guard at the All Peoples Congress Party headquarter, he was targeted by the present Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) government using political party thugs and colleague officers against him. Officer Kamara’s remaining Peacekeeping allowance is still on hold without any proper explanation from authorities’ concern. Whenever he ventures to ask for his remaining Peacekeeping allowances, he will be punished

He has been hit with several political intimidation, unexplainable injustices against him, punishment and harassment under the current government in the SLP and the rate at which things are unfolding is a serious cause for concern for this officer and his family since he returned from  Somalia. He was inhumanely treated after returning from Somalia, sleeping on bear floor outside of the Police Headquarter car park without accommodation, food, water nor toilet facility.

He was nowhere to be seen ever since. Several Police officers who were deemed traitors and who are perceived to be connected with the outgoing government of the All Peoples Congress (APC) are either missing, killed, jailed for life, or sent in exile.

Some were placed on wanted list for Treason, some unlawfully and forcefully retired or sent on leave without paying their benefits despite having served the SLP for decades.

Officer Kamara was also Politically dismissed from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) on the 15th November, 2023 without benefit after serving the SLP for eighteen (18) years.
His quarter where he was staying with his family at Kingtom Police barracks was taken away from him whilst his family was left without shelter. The continuous political intimidations, forceful retirement and exile, harassment, deprivation of entitlement, unlawful transfers and postings, Political sackings, unexplainable injustices, targeted killings of mainly northerners, made officer Kamara to fear for his life. The killings in Makeni, Tombo, Kamakwei, Mile 91, Lunsar and the Pademba road prisons massacre in Freetown in August 2022, are evidences of targeted killings of North-Westerners and Amnesty International and other national and international human right organizations collected testimonies of these sad events.
As a Journalist, having done my findings and research on various political issues in Sierra Leone and that of ASP Kamara, I will confirm that officer Kamara has gone through a lot of political intimidation.

It is therefore crystal clear that Officer Kamara, having gone through all these ordeals fears that his life is in great danger in Sierra Leone under the current government and that the worst could happen to him and his family just like some of his colleagues who are no more.
