The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Health, has received a donation of 75,000 Mpox vaccines from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This gesture of solidarity marks a significant effort in the fight against the Mpox virus that is spreading across the country.

The donation aims to enhance Sierra Leone’s response to the virus by protecting high-risk groups and reducing transmission rates. The vaccines were officially received at Lungi International Airport by the Honourable Minister of Health, alongside representatives from the National Public Health Agency (NPHA), UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and Africa CDC.

Since the country’s first confirmed case in January 2025, there has been rapid increase in confirmed cases with currently over 4,000 cases.

As vaccination efforts commence, the public is urged to remain vigilant, practice hand hygiene, and adhere to all public health guidelines to combat the spread of the virus effectively.
