Dorothy Springer Trust has engaged the parents’ support group on two days of training on business and entrepreneurship. In his opening statement, the program manager of Dorothy Springer Trust, Sheku Kabba, disclosed that the two days of training with the parents support group is a way of empowering parents who have children’s with disabilities. “Our focus is on capacity building, that why Dorothy Springer Trust decided to organise two days of training on business and entrepreneurship so that the parents will be self-reliant to take up the responsibility of their children’s who are living with disabilities at a time when donor funds willnot be available, so that they will be dropout” he stated.
One of the facilators for the two days of training, Feima Saidu said, she is excited about the responses of the parents support group because their inputs show how ready they are to embrace business opportunities, she encouraged the parents to build their financial capacity through entrepreneurship, especially on branding and packaging, sales and banking, local fund raising, on-line sales, and customer approach as a way of socio-economic resilience to ensure their livelihood. Group sessions and presentations by the parents’ support group were part of the two days training.
A representative from One Family People, Samuel Macauley, said, “One Family People is pleased with the partnership they have with Dorothy Springer Trust over the years, the training is timely because it will help you to be self-reliant” he stated. He concluded by assuring the parents support group that they will create link with micro finance institutions so that the parents can get financial support to do their business.
In his closing remarks, the CEO of Dorothy Springer Trust, Dr. Abdulai Dumbuya expressed gratitude to the parents’ support group for their cooperation during the two days of training. He urged them to put what they have learnt in pratics so that they would be able to manage the welfare of their children’s who are living with disabilities. He concluded by appreciating the hardworking team at Dorothy Springer Trust for their dedicated services to the parents’ support group during the days of training.
