Transforming our agricultural produce into value does not only keep the farmer motivated to produce more but can also hugely contribute to the reduction of migration of youths from rural to urban areas.
Several years ago, FINIC (Fomel Industry and National Industrialization Centre) invented the Manually Operated Palm Fruits Digester, a drum shaped contraption with a spindle on which beaters that macerate the fruits are attached. The contraption upgraded the traditional means of mashing the fruits in dug out pits to a much more simple and effective system. The invention boosted, to a very large extent, the processing of palm oil in the country to a point that graduated to the cost of palm oil effectively nose diving.
Within a year of its launch, the technology proliferated as rural youths started the fabrication of the contraption albeit illegally. FINIC was heavily competed against by youths who select who opt for inferior quality materials and poor workmanship to bring into being the same machine.
The Upgrade
The uplifting from mashing in the pit to a hand operated system has helped considerably but still falls short of making the human being a dignified laboring person. Productivity is not also strongly enhanced as it takes 2 persons an hour to macerate a drum content of boiled fruits.
