According to credible reports and party insiders, the majority of candidates, believed to have enjoyed the backing of the First Lady, emerged victorious in various constituencies, districts and regional elections. This growing trend has triggered serious debate within political and civil society circles, with many suggesting that Madam Fatima Bio has successfully positioned herself as a dominant force within the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
Political pundits have gone as far as describing the current state of affairs as “a quiet political capture” by the First Lady. They argue that her influence over key stakeholders, youth groups, women’s wings and even grassroots supporters of the party cannot be ignored or underestimated.
