23 Years Old Man Sentenced to 10 years Imprisonment

A twenty-three years old Alhaji Sawaneh, a Fisherman has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment for sexually penetrating a four years old girl at the criminal session at the Sexual Offences Court No.7 on Siaka Steven Street Freetown, on a count charge of sexual penetration contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act 2012 Act No.12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by Section 4 (a) (ii) of the Sexual offences Amendment Act 2019, Act No.8 of 2019.

According to the particulars of offence on the 19th July 2023 in Freetown engaged in an act of sexual penetration with a child below 18.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused person he pleaded guilty and he was not legally represented he pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy.

“It is an act of wickedness to penetrate a four years old child. The victim should have been the one to nurture and to be given advice to the victim,” said Justice Steven.

He also considered the accused as a young person, he advised him to go and learn some of the skills they have in the correctional facility, and after serving his sentence term when he comes out he should not have anything to do with the victim due to the plea mitigation and he did not waste the court’s time.

Meanwhile, Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Steven sentenced the accused to ten years imprisonment to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
