Francis Martin Brings Innovation to MV Bai Bureh

By Mohamed Salim Mansaray

Francis Jamaal Martin, born on July 4, 1984, is a proud alumnus of Saint Edward’s Secondary School, graduating from the Science Class of 2005. Following his graduation, he made the thoughtful decision to further his studies in shipping and maritime administration in Ghana. Martin later gained valuable experience as a supercargo in the seafearing and maritime agency sector.

As a committed member of the Edwardian community, he firmly believes that excellence is essential—a principle that drives his dedication to creating and sustaining employment opportunities for his fellow Sierra Leoneans.

In 2007, he took the initiative to establish Eherna Shipping Management Company Ltd, with a vision to provide safe, high-quality sea transport services for both locals and the diaspora. A significant part of this vision was the revitalization of the MV Bai Bureh Ferry, an investment originally supported by NASSIT.

The newly upgraded MV Bai Bureh Ferry now features modern amenities, including: a deluxe VIP suite accommodating up to 82 passengers; space for 60 cars and 50 SUVs; an overall capacity of up to 500 passengers; a brand-new engine for enhanced reliability; complimentary Wi-Fi for passengers to stay connected and Minibus shuttle services aligned with flight schedules for improved connectivity and convenience

The transformation of the MV Bai Bureh Ferry stands as a strong testament to Martin’s lasting legacy in maritime transport and serves as a proud symbol of Sierra Leonean innovation and determination.ai Bureh Ferry stands as a strong testament to Martin’s lasting legacy in maritime transport and serves as a proud symbol of Sierra Leonean innovation and determination.
