Dr. Dennis Sandy Roped
In a bombshell development shaking Sierra Leone’s political and legal circles, Dr. Denis Moinina Sandy, the current Minister of Works and Public Assets, is now embroiled in a deepening legal scandal surrounding allegations of forged divorce proceedings against his estranged wife, Mrs. Mary Kai Sandy.
At the heart of the controversy is a purported Decree Absolute—ostensibly finalizing the divorce—dated November 27, 2024. However, prominent law firm Betts & Berewa Solicitors have filed an explosive motion (Image 3), asserting that the document in question (Image 4) fraudulently bears their name and was produced without their knowledge, instruction, or participation.
The firm is now seeking a staggering NLE 2.5 million (approx. USD $100,000) in damages, citing significant reputational damage and fractured professional relationships resulting from what they describe as an “unauthorized and criminal misuse” of their name in judicial proceedings.

Further escalating the legal drama, a letter from Michael & Michael Solicitors, representing Mrs. Sandy, alleges that the divorce decree was secured through irregular and potentially criminal mechanisms. According to the letter, Mrs. Sandy was never personally served any legal notice, and exhaustive checks revealed no official court record tied to the decree in question.

These developments have prompted an internal investigation by the Sierra Leone Judiciary, with growing calls for transparency and accountability. If proven, the allegations could point to a disturbing breach of legal ethics and possible judicial tampering by a senior government official.
As this unprecedented case unfolds, it raises critical questions about the integrity of legal processes, the sanctity of marital law, and the extent of political interference within Sierra Leone’s judicial system. The nation watches closely as the courts prepare to determine the veracity of the claims—and whether one of its top ministers will face criminal prosecution.
