The atmosphere was filled with music, excitement, and community spirit as the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) Brass Band staged a colorful Health Walk and Family Fun Day on Saturday 27th September,2025 in Freetown. The event, which started from Eastern Police and climaxed at the historic FSSG school compound, brought together students, families, health workers, and music lovers in a celebration that blended wellness with entertainment.

With the brass band setting the tempo, participants marched enthusiastically through the streets, drawing the attention of onlookers who cheered along. The walk was not only about fitness but also about promoting healthy living and community bonding.

Speaking to The Daybreak Newspaper, Mrs. Aminata Sumah, one of the organizers, explained that the initiative was designed to encourage people to take health seriously while also showcasing the talents of the school’s brass band. “We want our community to see health and fitness as a joyful experience. The music, the walk, the food, and the medical outreach all tie into the bigger message of living well and staying strong,” she noted.

The Band’s Director Marshall also expressed his delight at the success of the program, emphasizing that the brass band is not just more than music—it is a platform for discipline, unity, and social impact. “This celebration proves that music has the power to inspire positive change. Our health walk and family fun day is not just entertainment but a contribution to the well-being of our community,” he said.

At the school compound, the event continued with free medical checkups, including blood pressure screening, diabetes testing, and health education sessions. Food and drinks were served at no cost, ensuring that everyone felt included and cared for. The lively sound of trumpets, drums, and trombones kept spirits high as children and families enjoyed the fun-filled day.

The FSSG Brass Band’s Health Walk and Family Fun Day has not only uplifted the community but also set the stage for future initiatives where music and health can be blended together to create lasting impact.
