G.Tex, Kanikay Residents in Bloody War

By Edward Kabba Sesay.

Reports reaching this medium say there is a bloody land battle going on between Kanikay residents and G. Tex Company, an importer of food stuffs situated at 11 Ross Road Freetown.

In an interview with some youths residing in the community they have vowed to sacrifice their lives to protect their community land along the sea coast.

“We have inhabited this land for over 30 years and now G. Tex want to use money and connection to deprive us from our land,’’ Andrew Thoronka fumed.

According to sources, there was a previous agreement between the community and the Ross Road Division Police not to allow G. Tex access to the land to mitigate against future flooding but the SLP treated the agreement with levity.

One youth who spoke to this medium alleged that the Ross Road Division Police had been bribed, therefore G.Tex Company kick started their business at the expense of the community’s interest.

With this current stand-off, the aggrieved youths said that the spokesperson of G. Tex, Sembu Sesay have trivialized the issue.

This issue is above me. The parties to this land saga must come together and settle the issue amicably,’’ Sembu Sesay encouraged.

The Kanikay youths also alleged that G. Tex has been arrogantly boasting that the government is in their pocket.

“If the government is in their pocket, we the youth of Kanikay are determined to reclaim our land,” one irritant youth remarked.

It has also been alleged that the Ministry of Lands and the Sierra Leone Police stand accused of aiding G. Tex to acquire the community land.

‘’The situation of foreigners using money and political connection to grab lands belonging to communities has become the norm of the day,’’ another resident of Kanikay remarked.

Meanwhile, Founder and Director of Rescue Ship Foundation Sierra Leone have intimated this medium that he is ready to bring justice to the Kanikay youths, adding that he will hire the service of a lawyer on behalf of the affected youths.
