In a significant move to ensure development in Falaba district, Hon. Mohammed Alpha Jalloh of the All People’s Congress Party (APC) representing the people of Falaba district the northern part of Sierra Leone has donated over one hundred (100) solar street lights valued over three hundred million new Leones to his constituents and the district at large.
Sorie Kamara, the Town Chief of Musia in his welcome address said in the Dembleya Chiefdom that the event is crucial to the history of many towns and villages.
In a well-attended Town Hall meeting at Musia town, ward 125, constituency 039, Dembelia Musaia Chiefdom, on Sunday, June 16, 2024, Hon. Jalloh said the one hundred and six (100) solar street lights would be installed in seventeen different villages and towns across the district and that would help school going children who are struggling with light at home with their studies, adding that would improve the educational system in that part of the country. He added that it would also help strengthen security in some of the towns and villages. “These lights are very useful to us and to our children’s future” he stated while asking for prayers from community members because according to him as opposition MPs they are struggling a lot.
According to him, the seventeen targeted towns and villages are divided into three categories which include: big, middle and Small. He said the big towns will have ten street lights each, the villages he considered as middle will get five each and the small ones will get three each. Among them are, Dogoloya, Musia, Gbindi, Manan, Kormansilia among others.
“We know that there are many issues but we will try to do our best” the law marker promised, saying he and other MPs from the district had advocated for the toll gate charges including the reappointment of one of the elections commissioners but could not work in their favour as opposition members of Parliament. He furthered that there is a road construction going on in the diary that cost about ($1.2M) and that through his advocacy, the government has increased the initial budget that was allocated, saying development is citizens right from the government, saying during campaigning they promise development and they will continue to work on their promises.
Hon. Mohamed Conteh expressed joy over what he called ‘exceptional reception’ accorded them, noting as MPs they are always in search of development for their district, adding Hon. Jalloh is doing well in Parliament hence the street lights are one of the results. He said this is the first phase and the people should expect the second phase soonest while appreciating the electorate for electing them.
Making his statement, the host paramount Chief, Manga Sorie Konko Jawara II of Dembelia Musaia Chiefdom said the event marks the beginning of a new future development especially when it comes from their son. Hon. Mohamed Alpha Jalloh said the occasion was not about politics while encouraging residents to embrace peace, adding their responsibility as Paramount Chiefs is to work with the government of the day. He stated that as an opposition the only gift they could give is peace. “Any violence we as Paramount Chiefs we cannot support it” the PC asserted
Madam Dusuba Fofanah the district women’s leader of APC said the party is proud of the two APC MPs, saying their party is not in power but they are ‘massive’ development going on in the district from the two law makers. “We have to be security for the lights” she encouraged.
According to Mohamed Jawara alias political, who chaired the occasion said the occasion was very significant to the constituency and the district at large, saying the APC party is the only party in the country that is development oriented, adding the solar street lights would help their children to study at night.
