Hon. Osman Abdul Timbo Declares for APC Flagbearer

With Ahmed Papa Kanu

Hon. Osman Abdul Timbo has officially declared his intention to contest for the flagbearer position of the All People’s Congress (APC) party. His declaration was made in the midst of thousands of party stakeholders and supporters, marking a moment of great inspiration, especially for the youth of Sierra Leone who believe strongly in his leadership.

For many young people, this moment represents an answered prayer. They see Timbo as a modern-day Moses, divinely appointed to lead Sierra Leone out of poverty, injustice, hardship, and economic despair. His vision is not only centered on empowering the youth but also on uniting and uplifting all Sierra Leoneans regardless of political affiliation, tribe, region, or background.

A seasoned lawyer by profession, Hon. Timbo has built a solid reputation as a defender of human rights and justice. He rose through the ranks of the APC, starting in the party’s youth league and later serving as Deputy Secretary-General—a position he recently resigned from to pursue his presidential ambition. His contributions to the party are numerous, including being one of the legal luminaries behind the drafting of the current APC constitution.

Timbo was elected to Parliament in the 2018 General Elections due to his exceptional dedication, experience, and philanthropic efforts. However, he was controversially removed from Parliament in 2019, along with eight other MPs, through a court decision widely viewed as politically motivated. Many believe the move was driven by fear of his rising influence and his bold stance on national issues, not just within his party but across the political spectrum, often challenging the policies of the Bio administration.

With over 17 years of legal experience, Timbo brings vast knowledge and deep insight into governance. His leadership style is inclusive, consultative, and grounded in the principles of unity and accountability. Known for being a good listener, he believes in the power of collective action and shared responsibility.

Born into a humble family, Timbo’s father once served as Chief Justice under the late President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah of the SLPP. However, Timbo has always maintained his loyalty to the APC. “I am Osman Timbo,” he declared, “I believe in the ideals of the APC. I was born APC, I have fought for APC, and together, as a party, we will lead Sierra Leone to progress and development.”

He emphasized that transformation cannot be achieved by one person alone. “I cannot change this country without your support and ideas. I am calling on young people to join me as we work to build a better Sierra Leone. This is our time to take responsibility,” he stated.

Timbo is one of the few politicians with practical experience across all three arms of government. He served as a legal practitioner in the judiciary, as legal adviser to former President Ernest Bai Koroma, and as a Member of Parliament. In all these roles, he was often the youngest in the room, yet always distinguished by competence and integrity.

Beloved by many, especially the underprivileged, Timbo is affectionately known as “the friend of the poor.” His call to leadership resonates deeply with the aspirations of a new generation of Sierra Leoneans eager for meaningful change.

As he embarks on this important journey, the momentum behind his candidacy continues to grow. Many believe that with God’s guidance and the people’s support, Hon. Osman Abdul Timbo can truly lead Sierra Leone into a new era of hope, progress, and unity.
