– Management Explain

M.V. Bai Bureh Ferry has informed the general public about an unfortunate incident that occurred on Thursday, 9th October, 2025 at approximately 13:50 hours involving one of their crew members on board the ferry.

This disclosure was made on Wednesday 15th October, 2025, at a press conference organized by their Public Consultant, Ibrahim Bai Koroma, at his head office 34 Goderich Street in Freetown.

According to Consultant Bai Koroma, while the vessel was preparing to depart base in line with the tidal schedule at approximately 0.2m, the captain instructed the crew to stand by and subsequently ordered the engine to go astern.

He furthered that as the vessel got into motion, Mr. Saidu Koroma, a sailor, accidentally got his right foot entangled in a rope on deck.

Mr. Koroma maintained that despite immediate efforts by the crew to free him, the rope was under high tension, resulting in a severe injury that led to the amputation of his right foot. According to him, the injured sailor was promptly evacuated by a speedboat to Government Wharf Slipway, from where he was immediately transported for urgent medical attention and treatment.

He noted that the MV Bai Bureh, Ship Management sincerely regrets this unfortunate accident and the inconvenience caused.

He disclosed that management is closely monitoring Mr. Koroma’s condition and providing all necessary support to ensure he receives the best possible care.
