According to Abraham Lincoln the 16th President of the United States of America, ‘’government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth’’, this quote captures the essence of democracy, which is a system of government that is based on the will of the people.
The commitment of former President Ernest Bai Koroma to democracy and the rule of law, and his efforts to bring stability and prosperity to the country is unmatched in the country’s history. Under his leadership, Sierra Leone made significant process in rebuilding after the devastating civil war that had ravaged the country.
However, critics argue that koroma’s administration was not fully committed to democratic values and that it was marred by corruption and nepotism. Nevertheless, an examine of his tenure would answer the question of his criticd. Ernest Koroma was known for his calm and calculated demeanor, even in the face of intense scrutiny by the opposition. Ernest Koroma has conducted 85% of the elections in Africa, with all of them being peaceful.

These values must be embedded in every facet of our society, from our government and economy to our schools and communities’’. This quote highlights Koroma’s premium put on the importance of democratic values as a foundation for a just and prosperous society.
