If Elected as Women’s Leader…

Fatmata Sawaneh Sets to Unite SLPP Women

Madam Fatmata Sawaneh, a seasoned and dedicated member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), is once again stepping into the spotlight as she seeks re-election as the party’s Women’s Leader.

Madam Sawaneh has been widely regarded as one of the most influential female figures in the SLPP, after she played a pivotal role in bringing the party to power in 2018 during her previous tenure.

After missing out of  2023 elections, an outcome many political commentators described as marred by irregularities the women’s wing of the SLPP has reportedly struggled with effective leadership and cohesion. Her absence, many argue, has been deeply felt across the party’s grassroots and leadership structures.

Now making a strong comeback, Madam Sawaneh is receiving renewed support from delegates and party members alike, who view her as the ideal candidate to restore unity and purpose within the women’s wing. Her inclusive leadership style and open door policy have earned her admiration not just from SLPP women, but from men and women across the political spectrum.

Party insiders say that she remains a trusted advisor to many within the SLPP, often being the first point of call when female members face internal challenges or need guidance. Her return to the race has re-energized the base, with many delegates openly vowing to support her bid.

As the SLPP prepares for its internal elections, all eyes are on Fatmata Sawaneh, whose leadership is widely seen as key to revitalizing and uniting the party’s female base.
