The successful conclusion of the 2026 ECOWAS Summit on Sunday, July 19, has drawn attention to the dedication of institutions and public servants whose efforts ensured the smooth hosting of one of West Africa\u2019s most significant regional gatherings. Among those receiving commendation is the Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), Madam Musayeroh Barrie, whose leadership has been widely acknowledged throughout the preparation and execution of the summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sierra Leone hosted the ECOWAS Summit on July 18 and 19, welcoming Presidents, Heads of Government, diplomats and high-level delegations from across the West African sub-region. The event placed the country\u2019s aviation sector at the centre of regional attention as Freetown International Airport handled increased official and commercial air traffic under heightened security and logistical requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the commitment of her team, Madam Barrie shared a message during the early hours of the operation, stating: \u201cIt\u2019s 2:03 a.m., and the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) team is on duty, working tirelessly to support the ECOWAS Summit while ensuring every passenger enjoys a safe and secure travel experience. Service never sleeps when safety is the priority.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her remarks reflected the demanding nature of the assignment and the Authority\u2019s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety throughout the summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the days leading up to the regional gathering until its conclusion on Sunday, SLCAA personnel coordinated closely with national security agencies, airport operators and international aviation partners to ensure uninterrupted airport operations. Managing increased aircraft movements while maintaining normal commercial services required extensive planning, coordination and continuous operational oversight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
