{"id":1803,"date":"2026-08-08T17:36:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T17:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/?p=1803"},"modified":"2026-08-08T17:36:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T17:36:03","slug":"feed-salone-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/?p=1803","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Feed Salone\u2019 Initiative\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Agriculture Minister Supports WFP with 20,000 Bags of Local Rice <\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, officially handed over 20,000 bags of locally produced rice to the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, during the launch of the 2026\/27 Home-Grown School Feeding Programme at the World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in Freetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"394\" height=\"222\" src=\"https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1804\" srcset=\"https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image.jpg 394w, https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 394px) 100vw, 394px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Organized by the World Food Programme (WFP) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the event highlighted the Government&#8217;s commitment under the Feed Salone initiative to strengthen local food systems by creating sustainable markets for Sierra Leonean farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Kpaka described the procurement as \u201cFeed Salone in action,\u201d noting that, with support from the World Bank-funded Food Systems Resilience Program (FSRP), the Government is enabling WFP to purchase rice directly from local farmers, boosting production, rural incomes, and food security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"391\" height=\"261\" src=\"https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1805\" srcset=\"https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1.jpg 391w, https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 391px) 100vw, 391px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that the latest procurement builds on the achievements of the previous school year, during which WFP purchased more than 2,000 metric tonnes of locally produced food, providing school meals for over 250,000 children across five districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Conrad Sackey said the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme plays a vital role in improving school attendance, nutrition, and children&#8217;s cognitive development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WFP Country Representative Andrew Odero announced that 1 million kilograms of locally produced rice equivalent to 20,000 bags of 50 kilograms\u2014have been procured for the 2026\/27 school year.
