\u00a0-Detective Testifies in Admire Bio\u2019s Trial<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The prosecution’s lead investigator has told Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 how police uncovered key evidence during investigations into the alleged US$210,000 gold fraud involving Admire Frances Bio Jalloh, 45, and her husband, Dauda Jalloh alias Alhaji Dausy, 42.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two accused are standing trial before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah on an 11-count charge of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining money by false pretences, conspiracy to rob, money laundering, receiving money on forged documents, uttering forged documents, selling minerals without lawful authority, and tax evasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly conspired with other persons between 10 and 14 August 2025 at No. 1 DAJ Drive, Mile 13, Freetown Peninsula, to defraud two Italian businessmen, Fanni Giuseppe and Alfio Siracusa, of US$210,000 by falsely presenting GAN Minerals Sierra Leone Limited as a legitimate gold trading company capable of supplying three kilograms of gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading evidence before the court, Detective Inspector Abubakar Hassan, attached to the Foreign Nationals and Tourism Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, testified that the investigation began after the two Italian nationals lodged a complaint on 15 August 2025. He said the matter was assigned jointly to the Transnational Crime Unit and the Anti-Fraud Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The detective explained that investigators obtained statements from the complainants, witnesses, and both accused persons, all of which were tendered as exhibits before the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further testified that investigators visited No. 92 Wilkinson Road, the address listed for GAN Minerals Sierra Leone Limited, but discovered that the location was an unfinished building with no office operating under the company’s name. He added that the property’s owner also confirmed she had no knowledge of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detective Inspector Hassan also informed the court that investigators carried out enquiries at the National Minerals Agency, received an official response, and tendered it as evidence. He further disclosed that police received US$15,000 as a refund linked to the disputed transaction during the course of the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The witness said that, following legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), both accused persons were formally charged and cautioned, while their charge statements were tendered before the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the prosecution closed the witness’s testimony, defence counsel M.C. L. Cole Wilson attempted to cross-examine the investigator despite having earlier informed the court in chambers that he had no questions for the witness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Counsel Isaac Yusuf Sesay objected to the move, and Magistrate Jah upheld the objection, ruling that the defence could not reverse its earlier position. Defence counsel subsequently informed the court that he would instead proceed with a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The matter was adjourned to 10 August 2026 for the defence’s no-case submission, while the prosecution is expected to respond on 13 August 2026 before the court delivers its ruling on whether the accused have a case to answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
