{"id":190,"date":"2026-05-13T12:40:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T12:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/?p=190"},"modified":"2026-05-13T12:40:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T12:40:25","slug":"bike-riders-union-romances-with-ecsl-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daybreaknewspapersl.com\/?p=190","title":{"rendered":"Bike Riders Union Romances with ECSL Chief"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The national executive of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bike Riders Union (SALCOMBRU) paid a visit to the Chief Electoral &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman, Mr. Edmond Alpha&nbsp;&nbsp; at his office on Tower Hill, Freetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delegation was led by the SALCOMBRU President, Ishmeal Sandy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He visit was aimed &nbsp;to congratulate the Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman on his appointment to the office and forester and&nbsp; partnership and mutual&nbsp; working relationship with ECSL and SALCOMBRU in the arrears of &nbsp;electoral education, citizen\u2019s participation and awareness raising in the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President of the SALCOMBRU, Ishmeal Sandy congratulated the CEC and Chairman and stated that they are the largest youth group in Sierra Leone with one million two hundred and fifty-six thousand registered members; and the association is diverse but nonpolitical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his welcome statement, the Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman, Edmond Sylvester Alpha expressed appreciation to the executive and membership for the courtesy visit and pledged the ECSL\u2018s continued collaboration and partnership with SALCOMBRU.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Alpha further stated that he has personal respect for members of SALCOMBRU because he considers them as a major voting bloc and the fastest means of mobility and accessibility in Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Mr. Alpha, SALCOMBRU has a unique role to play in reaching out to the remotest voter registration centres and polling stations in the election process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Alpha assured the delegation that the ECSL is willing and ready to collaborate and work with the bike riders union with an estimated 1.2 million registered members, of which the majority are eligible voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ECSL boss clearly stated that his key message for the bike riders is: \u201cLet bike riders get the right electoral messages for the 2028 elections.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ECSL and Chairman however warned that political parties should not exploit bike riders for vested interests that will jeopardise their role as peaceful citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ECSL boss and Chairman also stated that: \u2018\u2019The ECSL is willing and prepared to sign an MoU with your union to undertake electoral education among your ranks and general membership nationwide and any such partnership will be bound by codes of conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He concluded by granting the bike riders the title of &#8216;certified peace ambassadors&#8217; which in his words, he referred to them as \u201cmotor riders and change drivers\u201d and encouraged them to promote and practice true democracy in their internal elections and adhere to the best codes of conduct as patriotic citizens and change drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SALCOMBRU President, Ishmeal Sandy proudly appreciated the peace ambassador accolade accorded them and cited that they were also proudly awarded the title of peace ambassadors by the UNDP in 2022 and are happy to be recognised again by the ECSL Chairman as ambassadors for peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Climaxing the visit, SALCOMBRU president presented a congratulatory Plaque to the Chief Electoral Commissioner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The national executive of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bike Riders Union (SALCOMBRU) paid a visit to the Chief Electoral &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman, Mr. Edmond Alpha&nbsp;&nbsp; at his office on Tower Hill, Freetown.
