Scholars of African governance agree on one hard truth: the continent\u2019s crisis is not a crisis of capacity, but a crisis of leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Sierra Leone, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura argues that what we need is not a bigger government, but better leadership. For a post-conflict nation scarred by civil war, Ebola, and COVID-19, the path forward demands transformational leadership, leadership anchored in ideological clarity, strong institutions, and human empathy. Without it, the rule of law remains hollow, economic equity remains a slogan, and public trust remains broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Bangura\u2019s diagnosis is clear: for too long, governance in Sierra Leone and across much of Africa has been personalized, not institutionalized. Power has been hoarded, not distributed. The result is a political culture of patronage where loyalty to individuals outweighs loyalty to the constitution, and where corruption thrives in the vacuum left by weak institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For him, leadership and good governance are inseparable. You cannot build one without the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Bangura identifies three defining threats to Sierra Leone\u2019s democracy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Electoral instability \u2014 before, during, and after elections<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Systemic corruption \u2014 that bleeds public resources dry<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Elite capture \u2014 where a few decide for the many<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To break this cycle, he proposes three non-negotiables:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Strengthen institutions \u2014 so they outlive personalities and political cycles. As former U.S. President Barack Obama told Ghana: \u201cAfrica does not need strongmen. Africa needs strong institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Enforce transparency \u2014 so that power is exercised in the open, not in backrooms<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Uphold constitutionalism \u2014 so that the law, not men, governs<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This, Dr. Bangura believes, is the only way to restore public trust. A nation that has survived a brutal war and devastating pandemics does not need more resilience. It needs resolve the political will to move from survival to transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His message is simple: nations are not built by accident. They are built by leaders who choose institutions over individuals, service over self, and the future over the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Bangura also believes that chasing political opponents should not be a government\u2019s priority. That would be a disservice to the millions of suffering Sierra Leoneans. The people must come first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His administration will focus on healing the nation and delivering basic services. Only after that will he unite Sierra Leoneans for national development because we are one people, bound by history, blood, and a shared future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike the usual brand of Sierra Leonean politics built on sugarcoated promises that are never delivered, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura is set to introduce a new kind of politics one where the majority of promises are kept, and where government is run not on ethnicity or region, but on the content of one\u2019s character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
