The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL), in collaboration with the European Union (EU), has received six newly graduated university students for a three-month internship programme aimed at equipping them with practical workplace experience and professional skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The six interns are among 26 participants under the EU Internship Scheme and joined 23 newly recruited ASSL staff for a two-week induction programme designed to familiarise them with the institution\u2019s mandate, values, policies and professional expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The interns will be assigned to departments aligned with their academic backgrounds and career aspirations, where they will work under experienced mentors and gain practical exposure while developing key skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, accountability and professional conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking during an EU-organised induction session at the Ministry of Finance, the Team Lead for the EU Linpico project, Mr. Augustus Cole urged the interns to maximise the opportunity, emphasising that the programme is \u201cnot just an internship but a learning process.\u201d He encouraged them to learn from experienced professionals, share knowledge and develop a strong sense of accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Principal Deputy Financial Secretary Mr. Samuel E. B. Momoh encouraged the interns to combine their academic knowledge with practical workplace experience, while remaining open to learning from established professional practices and contributing their own ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ASSL Legal Affairs Manager, Madam Kadijatu Bangura stated that the internship is a product of the strong standing partnership between the EU, ASSL and the Government of Sierra Leone. She noted that the EU has always provided capacity investment support that have helped the ASSL to strengthen its work. She encouraged the interns to make good use of the opportunity as it is a pathway to improving their capacity for work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Welcoming the interns to ASSL, Auditor-General Mr. Abdul Aziz described them as the first cohort under the EU-ASSL partnership programme. He encouraged them to \u201clearn, ask questions, contribute and grow,\u201d while assuring them of the support of ASSL management and staff throughout their placement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further described the interns as potential ambassadors of ASSL and a bridge between the Audit Service and their respective universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the ASSL induction programme at the Youyi Building, the Auditor-General also reminded the new staff and interns of their responsibility to the people of Sierra Leone, stressing that \u201cintegrity is the watchword at ASSL. \u201c He urged them to uphold integrity, independence, professionalism and quality in their work, while contributing to accountability, transparency and responsible management of public resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EU-ASSL internship programme is intended to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical workplace experience, while strengthening youth employability and contributing to the development of a skilled and productive workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ASSL expressed appreciation to the European Union for its support and welcomed the six interns, wishing them a productive and rewarding three-month learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
