Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, popularly known as DIB, has received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from sections of the people of Kono District during his recent engagement with communities across the district, in what supporters described as a strong demonstration of grassroots affection and growing political confidence in his leadership.

The reception was marked by smiles, cheers, handshakes, greetings and expressions of support, creating a memorable atmosphere as Dr. Bangura interacted with residents, community members, supporters and well-wishers.

From the moment of his arrival, the atmosphere reportedly reflected excitement among those who gathered to see and engage with the prominent All People’s Congress (APC) figure. Supporters used the occasion to express their admiration for DIB and their belief that he represents a new direction for the APC as the party looks ahead to the 2028 presidential election.

For many of his supporters in Kono, the visit was more than a routine political engagement. It was seen as an opportunity to demonstrate their support for Dr. Bangura and to communicate their expectations for the future of the APC.

“DIB Is the Unstoppable One”

Among the strongest messages emerging from the gathering was the growing slogan that “DIB is the unstoppable one come 2028.”

His supporters maintain that Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has continued to build momentum within the APC through his engagements with party members and communities across the country. They argue that his approach, emphasis on unity and direct engagement with grassroots supporters are strengthening his position among party members.

The Kono reception has therefore been presented by his supporters as another indication of what they describe as increasing grassroots support for DIB’s ambition to become the APC flagbearer in 2028.

Kono Welcomes DIB

Kono District, known for its rich history, vibrant communities and significant contribution to Sierra Leone’s political and economic life, provided a colourful setting for the engagement.

Residents and supporters who gathered to welcome Dr. Bangura expressed their excitement through warm greetings, handshakes, cheers and personal interactions. The visible enthusiasm surrounding the visit created an atmosphere that supporters said demonstrated the importance of grassroots mobilisation ahead of the APC’s internal political process.

Dr. Bangura also used the occasion to interact with the people, listen to their concerns and strengthen relationships with supporters and community members.

A Message of Unity and Grassroots Politics

The engagement comes at a time when political attention within the APC is increasingly focused on the party’s future leadership and preparations for the 2028 elections.

For DIB supporters, the priority is not only winning the flagbearer contest but also building a united APC capable of reconnecting with its grassroots base.

They believe that sustained consultations, community engagement and internal unity will be critical if the party is to present a strong challenge in 2028.

The Kono reception has consequently become another talking point among DIB supporters, who argue that the enthusiasm shown during the visit demonstrates that his political message is gaining traction beyond traditional political centres.

2028: DIB’s Supporters Positively Looking Ahead

As the APC gradually moves toward its 2028 political contest, the question of who will lead the party into the presidential race is expected to remain one of the most closely watched issues in Sierra Leonean politics.

DIB’s supporters are increasingly positioning him as a leading contender, describing him as a politician with the capacity to unite party members, strengthen the grassroots and provide the leadership they believe the APC needs.

The warm reception in Kono, according to his supporters, represents another chapter in what they describe as a growing nationwide movement behind Dr. Ibrahim Bangura.

While the final decision on the APC flagbearer will ultimately depend on the party’s established internal processes, DIB’s supporters remain confident and continue to campaign under the message that “DIB is the choice for 2028.”

For now, the cheers, smiles, handshakes and warm greetings witnessed in Kono have added fresh energy to the growing conversation about DIB’s political future.

Kono has spoken, according to his supporters — and their message is clear: Dr. Ibrahim Bangura is being presented as a serious contender for the APC flagbearership and, in their words, the “unstoppable one” heading toward 2028.
