JFK Sent To Imprison<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara Esq., fondly known as JFK was arrested on the orders of the Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Hon. Komba Kamanda following a tense exchange at the Supreme Court over remarks he allegedly made about the Court during proceedings on the first sitting of the Supreme Court Hearing on the Constitutional Amendment Bill on Wednesday October 7th<\/sup> 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The confrontation followed a warning from the Chief Justice that the remarks were considered \u201cterribly derogatory\u201d to the personality and integrity of the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone, the Highest Court in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court said what transpired the previous day was completely unnecessary, stressing that the Supreme Court has considerable powers to act within the confines of the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Justice also told JFK that he should retract the statement he had made publicly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court explained that, because the matter before it was constitutional in nature, it had decided not to obstruct the proceedings and had allowed the substantive matter to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Court took issue with the comments attributed to JFK, describing them as contentious and an affront to the personality and integrity of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Justice subsequently gave JFK an ultimatum to either issue a public apology or risk being cited for contempt of court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court further warned that, if he refused to apologize, he could be cited for contempt or potentially be barred from appearing before the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe choice is yours,\u201d the Chief Justice told JFK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to the Court, JFK said he had listened carefully and understood the concerns raised regarding what had transpired the previous day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that, as a lawyer, he had a professional duty to his clients and was required to pursue their interests to the best of his ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he stressed that his responsibilities extended beyond his clients, saying he also owed a duty to the State and the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JFK maintained that he was before the Court to defend the Constitution and ensure that the constitutional questions before the Court were properly determined, rather than to promote any personal or political interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He described the matter as one of significant national importance and said he intended to give it his best because of its potential implications for the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to JFK, the issue was not about him personally or about any individual, but about ensuring that the constitutional questions before the Court received proper consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He maintained that he would continue to pursue the matter on behalf of his client, stressing that the issues before the Court were too important to be treated lightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded by emphasizing the need for the matter to be resolved through the proper legal process and in the interest of the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a short stand-down, the matter returned before the Supreme Court, where the judges addressed the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JFK subsequently offered another apology. However, the Chief Justice reportedly expressed concern that he remained reluctant to fully comply with the Court\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Justice then instructed JFK to remove his wig and stand in the dock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JFK refused to comply with the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following his refusal, the Chief Justice ordered his arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development brought a dramatic turn to the proceedings, with JFK being taken into custody following the confrontation with the Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following his arrest, JFK reportedly turned to members of the Bar and told them: \u201cI will be back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Justice thereafter adjourned the matter to 13th October 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case has now moved from a dispute over publicly made comments to a direct confrontation between counsel and the Supreme Court, culminating in an arrest order and a further hearing date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next appearance on 13th<\/sup> October is expected to determine the further course of the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another development, confirmed news said APC Lead Counsel Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, popularly known as JFK, has been reportedly granted bail following his detention for contempt of court during the ongoing constitutional amendment proceedings at the Supreme  Court<\/a> of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
