A member of the Sierra Leone Parliamentary delegation to the Economic Community of West African States Parliament (ECOWAS), Hon. Mabinty Fatmata Angel Funna, Member of Parliament (MP) representing Constituency 054 Tonkolili District, All People’s Congress (APC) party has engaged the President of Liberia, Joseph Nyuma Boakai at his Executive Mansion in Monrovia Liberia, participated in an ECOFEPA school outreach programme and held media engagement in the country.

Her visit was part of the ECOWAS Female Parliamentarians Master Class delegation that paid a visit to the country focusing on the theme:
“Advancing Women’s Participation in Global Trade – For Prosperity That Truly Belongs to All,” held on 14th and 15th October, 2026 in Liberia.

In his remarks, President Boakai praised the contributions and sacrifices of women to national development, describing them as essential partners in nation-building who often think beyond their personal interests.

The delegation was led by Liberian Representative Moima Briggs Mensah, Nigerian Lawmaker Blessing Ehiwarlo Samuel Atiri. They registered their appreciation for the audience with the President and thanked him for his praises towards women’s contributions towards nation building and commitment towards supporting women’s empowerment.

In a media engagement, Hon. Mabinty told the media and Liberia people that the Master class is basically adding women in trade and business a missing guidebook.

She said the aim of the Master Class was to teach the women, “How to package your cassava chips or palm oil so you can sell them in Accra or Lagos. How to follow the rules so that nobody seized your goods. Where the bigger buyers are and how this big African free trade thing actually works for them. No big grammar – just practical useful knowledge.”

She noted that women make up seventy to seventy-five per cent of cross-border traders in the region but registered businesses and large exporters are mostly men.

“Not because women can’t, but because they haven’t been taught the system,” Hon Mabinty argued.

She concluded by saying that:
“Prosperity shouldn’t be a privilege. It’s your right to. Let trade, grow and rise together. Thank you Liberia. God bless us all.”

In another development, Hon. Funna admonished students during the ECOFEPA School Outreach Programme in Kataka District and Salala District Bong County that greatness does not come with slack hands but hard efforts.

She said:

“My young friend, your background is not your destiny. I didn’t have it all but I had faith and God. Education is you superpower. It protects you. It opens doors nobody else can close. Your age is not your weakness, it’s your power. I was 27 when I started. You are never too young to lead. Trust God and work hard. That this the secret formula nobody talks about enough. Don’t wait for permission to be great. Start were you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. The world is waiting for your light, shine bright.”
