Following a further review of the matter and in the absence of any conclusive evidence linking the management of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) to allegations that the Freetown Port serves as a \u201ccocaine corridor\u201d. We acknowledge that previous statements published on this issue may have conveyed an inaccurate impression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Queen Elizabeth II Quay remains Sierra Leone\u2019s principal maritime gateway, facilitating international trade, commerce, and economic activity. While recent drug-related incidents involving cargo shipments and vessel operations have generated public concern and attracted significant attention, no official investigation or finding has established that the port itself functions as a corridor for narcotics trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We recognize that allegations of this nature can have serious consequences for the reputation of the Port, the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority, the Government of Sierra Leone, investors, international trading partners, and the many individuals whose livelihoods depend on the maritime sector. As responsible journalists, we remain committed to the principles of fairness, accuracy, balance, and evidence-based reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Accordingly, we hereby retract our assertion that the Freetown Port is a \u201ccocaine corridor\u201d and sincerely apologize to the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority, its Director General, Yankuba Askia Bio, port workers, stakeholders, and members of the public who may have been affected by the publication of claims that were not supported by verified evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We continue to support the efforts of the Government of Sierra Leone, under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio, as well as law enforcement agencies and anti-drug institutions, in combating narcotics trafficking and safeguarding the country\u2019s international reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
