The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has emerged as one of the top-performing public institutions in the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024-2028, securing an impressive 87 percent compliance score and jointly ranking first among Agencies, Authorities and Commissions alongside the Sierra Leone Airport Authority. This was revealed in the First Quarter Monitoring Report on the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Strategy conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Strategy Secretariat in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The assessment, which covered 95 public institutions nationwide, evaluated compliance with key anti-corruption measures, governance standards, accountability mechanisms, internal controls and transparency requirements. Out of 23 action points assessed, SLPHA successfully implemented 20, leaving only three outstanding, resulting in its compliance rating of 87 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Authority\u2019s strong performance reflects its sustained commitment to promoting integrity, accountability and good governance across its operations. The report highlighted that institutions demonstrating high compliance have strengthened internal control systems, established and operationalized Integrity Management Committees, enhanced oversight mechanisms, embraced digital financial management processes, and improved transparency in administrative and financial operations. These measures align with reforms that the SLPHA has consistently pursued as part of its corporate governance and institutional strengthening agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The achievement also underscores the unwavering commitment the Board, Management and Staff of the Authority to ensuring that the Port remains a model public institution. By implementing key recommendations under the NACS, SLPHA has demonstrated that accountability and efficiency are essential pillars for delivering quality services and safeguarding public resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcoming the recognition, Director General of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPA), Yankuba Askia Bio has said that \u201cthe recognition is a testament to the institution\u2019s dedication to transparency\u201d and ethical leadership. The Director General noted that the result does not only enhance public confidence in the SLPHA, but also reinforces its reputation as a responsible and an accountable institution contributing to national development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a time when the overall national compliance rate stands at 42 percent and public institutions are being urged to intensify efforts to strengthen governance systems, SLPHA\u2019s performance serves as a benchmark for excellence and a practical demonstration of the positive impact of robust anti-corruption measures.<\/p>\n\n\n
