On July 10, 2025, Judith Boi Kosseh, the Deputy Director General of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbour Authority (SLPHA), officially announced her candidacy for the position of National Treasurer within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), a political organization she holds dear. In her statement, she reflected on her previous experiences, asserting that this is not her first venture into national politics. While residing in the UK, she served as an Executive member of the SLPP before returning to Sierra Leone in 2016 to support His Excellency Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio in his presidential campaign.

Kosseh emphasized her commitment to effecting meaningful change within the party. She stated, “I can’t be outside for me to do anything positive,” highlighting her belief that active participation is crucial to driving progress. Acknowledging the contributions of the current National Treasurer, whom she respects deeply. Kosseh expressed her desire for the opportunity to enhance the financial system of the SLPP. She noted that her elder sister, now an ambassador in Gambia, has done her best in the role, but she firmly believes that she can bring a fresh perspective and improved management to the position.

Her background as an Auditor 2 in the UK has instilled in her the principles of transparency and accountability, which she views as essential for any candidate vying for such a significant role. “If someone doesn’t fit for such position, he or she cannot be voted or placed in such office,” she asserted, underlining her belief in meritocracy within the party. She clarified that her allegiance lies solely with the SLPP and not with any political faction, reinforcing her dedication to unity and collective progress.

Throughout her political journey, Kosseh has consistently prioritized the values of family and cooperation within the SLPP. She expressed her readiness to collaborate with all members of the party, regardless of who ultimately emerges victorious in the elections. Her commitment to the SLPP is evident, as she stated, “When a person belongs to the SLPP, we are all one family.” This sentiment reflects her intention to work towards a common goal: the growth and success of the party.

Having been involved in politics for several years, Kosseh’s experience speaks volumes. She has tirelessly supported the SLPP, often preferring to take a back seat. However, she believes the time has come for her to step into a leadership role, stating, “This time round I have decided to lead, not just to give support.” Her interactions with delegates have revealed their priorities, which focus on quality representation and not monetary gains, further bolstering her confidence in her ability to fulfill the duties of National Treasurer.

Kosseh also highlighted that in the SLPP, the emphasis is on what candidates can offer rather than financial inducements. “One quality we enjoy about anyone aspiring for such position is not about money,” she stated, reiterating the importance of integrity and capability in leadership roles. She believes that the party will not offer positions to individuals who have not proven their commitment and competence.

In her closing message, Kosseh urged all members of the SLPP and citizens of Sierra Leone to support her candidacy. She emphasized her goal of building a healthy financial system within the party, reinforcing the ideals of integrity and accountability. “One needs to be accountable for everything he or she does, even in your own personal life,” she stated, highlighting her belief that personal integrity reflects on professional responsibilities.

Kosseh’s approach is grounded in action rather than mere rhetoric. She firmly believes that one’s deeds speak louder than words, and she is committed to demonstrating this principle. Her final rallying cry, “One Country! One People,” encapsulates her vision for unity and progress within Sierra Leone.

As the SLPP prepares for the upcoming elections, Judith Boi Kosseh stands poised to bring her experience, dedication, and vision for transparency and accountability to the role of National Treasurer. Her candidacy represents not just a personal ambition, but a commitment to the values and future of the Sierra Leone People’s Party.
