Lands Ministry on Rapid Transformation Drive

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning in Sierra Leone has recently been involved in several key developments, including the introduction of new technology to improve land administration, the handover of land to a disabled group, and capacity building for surveyors. Additionally, the Ministry is collaborating with the World Bank on the Sierra Leone Land Administration Project (SLLAP). The Ministry is actively working on digitizing land administration processes, including the implementation of a Land Management Information System (LMIS).

This involves using technologies like the Continuous Operating Reference Stations (CORS) network to enhance surveying accuracy and efficiency. The Ministry recently handed over 168 acres of state land to the Charlotte community and also provided 15 acres to a disabled group that had been struggling for shelter for years. The Ministry is conducting training sessions for government surveyors and technical staff on using the CORS network and modern surveying equipment. This is part of the broader SLLAP initiative aimed at professionalizing land administration.

The Ministry is collaborating with the World Bank on the SLLAP project and also has a partnership with UN-Habitat to develop the Sierra Leone Habitat III Report, formulate the National Urban Policy, and support urban development projects. Sierra Leone is also undertaking legislative reforms to improve the built urban environment, with support from UN-Habitat.
