The Mabohanday Federation, a non-profit organization with a longstanding tradition of philanthropy and cultural preservation, is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary in a grand event at the Iverson Mall, 3701 Branch Avenue, Hillcrest Drive, Maryland, on August 24, 2024. Founded in 1982, the Federation has grown to comprise ten chapters, with eight in the United States, one in the Netherlands, and one in the United Kingdom. This milestone event will be a colourful celebration of the organization’s unique achievements and contributions to Sierra Leonean communities and institutions.
The Mabohanday Federation has built a legacy of giving over its four decades of existence. The organization’s dedication to supporting communities in Sierra Leone has been consistent. From donating essential food supplies and medical equipment to funding the renovation of churches and mosques, Mabohanday’s impact has been far-reaching. The Federation has also made significant contributions to education by providing full scholarships to students pursuing degrees in medicine and law. Currently, 31 students from the College of Medicine and 74 law students in Sierra Leone are benefitting from Mabohanday’s generous scholarships.
The 40th-anniversary celebration is expected to be a cultural extravaganza, showcasing the rich traditions of the Limba people, one of Sierra Leone’s most prominent ethnic groups. Attendees will be treated to a vibrant display of fabulous attires, costumes, and delicious cuisine, all reflecting the diverse and colorful culture of Sierra Leone. The event will also feature a variety of side performances, including the traditional Matoma dance, a popular cultural dance, and comedic acts that promise to keep the audience entertained throughout the night.
In addition to the cultural performances, the event will also serve as an opportunity for guests to interact with members of the Mabohanday Federation from across the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. The celebration will also mark the official induction of the Federation’s newest chapter in the Netherlands, further expanding the organization’s international reach.
The evening’s entertainment will be headlined by DJ Murana D-Guy, one of the most awarded DJs in the Washington Metro area, who is sure to keep the dance floor lively with his eclectic mix of music.
Tickets for the event are priced at $100 for regular admission, $150 for single patrons, and $250 for couples. The event will begin at 8:00 PM, with dinner being served promptly at 9:00 PM.
This 40th-anniversary celebration is not just a commemoration of the Federation’s past achievements, but also a proof of its enduring dedication to philanthropy and community support. The Mabohanday Federation continues to grow and expand its reach, it remains dedicated to giving back to the communities that have supported it over the years.
